New York, Nov 20

President-elect Donald Trump met his most prominent Republican critic Mitt Romney on Saturday in a highly anticipated get-together, a media report said.

The meeting between the two was concluded at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey, USA Today reported.

Romney shook hands with the president-elect and asked, "Mr. president-elect how are you sir?"

Reportedly, Romney -- the 2012 GOP presidential nominee -- is interested in the post of secretary of State but analysts say it is doubtful Trump would offer a job in his administration given the verbal jabs they exchanged during Trump's campaign.

Romney called Trump a "phony ... a fraud ...(and) a con man" and had said that Trump's refusal to release his tax records was "disqualifying".

Trump responded that Romney was "irrelevant (and) a choke artist." He tweeted often about Romney, at one point calling him a "dope!"

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie are expected to meet with Trump on Sunday.
