UK Supreme Court says Parliament must vote on Brexit
London, Jan 24: The UK Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled that Parliament must vote on whether the government can start the Brexit -- Britain's exit from the European Union (EU) -- process, the media reported.
The judgement meant that Prime Minister Theresa May cannot begin talks with the EU until MPs and peers support the exit, the BBC reported.
But the court ruled the Scottish Parliament and Welsh and Northern Ireland assemblies did not need a say.
The court rejected the case put by ministers by a majority of eight to three.
Attorney General Jeremy Wright said the government was "disappointed" but would "comply" and do "all that is necessary" to implement the court's judgement.
