British PM calls snap election on June 8

London, April 18 British Prime Minister Theresa May on Tuesday announced a snap general election on June 8.
In an unexpected statement at Downing Street, May said she was starting the process of calling a vote, less than halfway through the government's term, BBC reported.
Britain needed certainty, stability and strong leadership following the European Union referendum, she said.
