Defender Maguire signs for Leicester City
London, June 16: English football club Leicester City announced its first signing of the summer in the form of defender Harry Maguire from Hull City. The 24-year-old signed a contract which will run till the summer of 2022.
The England player on Thursday said it was during a meeting with Leicester head coach Craig Shakespeare that he became confident his future lay with the 2015-16 English Premier League (EPL) champions, reports Efe.
"It's a very exciting moment for me. Once I had my eyes on this club, I always wanted to join. Thankfully I'm here so I can't wait to get the season started and kick on," said Maguire, who will join his new team-mates in early July ahead of Leicester's pre-season training camp in Austria.
"There were a number of clubs interested, but when I met the coach here, he pretty much swayed it into the direction of this club. He showed me the way that the club is going. It's on the up and it looks very promising for the future, so credit to the gaffer," he added.
"You can see that with the structure of the club, it's going to look upwards rather than down so that was a big reason why, as soon as I knew there was an interest, I wanted to jump at the opportunity."
Maguire made a total of 36 appearances in the 2016/17 season for Hull, who were relegated from the EPL.
