Eight Mizo racers eye glory at JK Tyre National Racing meet
Aizawl, July 7: A couple of months after the Aizawl FC created waves by clinching their maiden I-League football tournament, now a group of eight budding racers from Mizoram are all set to etch their name in the countrys racing circuit and earn a chance to represent India at the Red Bull Rookie Cup-Road To Moto GP in Spain.
A total of 15 racers were selected in the Rookie Cup category of the Suzuki Gixxer Cup (12-16 years) with eight being from Aizawl. The youngsters will be seen in action in the JK Tyre FMSCI National Racing Championship 2017, that begins at the Kari Motor Speedway at Coimbatore this weekend,
This is the first time in the history of the Indian motorsports that more than 50 percent of the grid in any racing event will be filled by racers from Aizawl.
This goes on to show the immense untapped quality hiding in the North Eastern part of the country and their potential could never be realised due to absence of a proper platform.
And in order to select racers from every nook and corner of the country, JK Tyre held four selection camps across the country -- Bengaluru in the South, Aizwal in the East, Pune in the West and the National Capital Region (NCR) in the North.
"It is indeed a great turn of events that more than 50 percent of the racers in the Rookie Cup are from Aizawl," Sanjay Sharma, head of JK Tyre Motor Sports, said.
"We always knew that this part of the country has lot of talent and this is the reason we host so many events in this part of the country. This is very encouraging and I believe with time and platform like these, we will see a lot more talent coming up from the North-East," he added.
