Congress names party affairs incharges for Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday appointed R.P.N. Singh and P.L. Punia to look after party affairs in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, respectively, relieving party General Secretary B.K. Hariprasad of the responsibility.

Hariprasad had written to Gandhi a few months ago, asking to be relieved of the charge.

However, he continues to be party General Secretary in charge of Odisha.

In Jharkhand, Umang Singhar and Mainul Haque have been appointed All India Congress Committee Secretaries to assist R.P.N. Singh.

In Chhattisgarh, Kamleshwar Patel and Arun Oraon have been appointed AICC Secretaries to assist Punia.

"The Congress President has assigned the duty to look after party affairs in Jharkhand to a new AICC team in place of B.K. Hariprasad and Tarachand Bhagora," a party statement said.

The task of looking after party affairs in Chhattisgarh has been assigned to a new AICC team in place of B.K. Hariprasad and Bhakta Charan Das, another statement said.

Assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand will be held in 2018 and by 2019-end, respectively.
