Gandhi files nomination for Vice President

New Delhi, July 18: Opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers for the Vice Presidential election.
Gandhi, a former West Bengal Governor and Mahatma Gandhi's grandson, is pitched against NDA candidate M. Venkaiah Naidu.
Gandhi's name was proposed by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and CPI-M leader Sitaram Yechuri.
Last week, 18 opposition parties including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Nationalist Congress Party, DMK and the Left declared Gandhi their candidate for the August 5 Vice Presidential battle.
