Indian surgeon on Long Island, NY, arrested

Venkatesh Sasthakonar , 44, a bariatric surgeon was arrested Monday for sneaking up behind a nurse in a hospital and attempting to strangle her with an elastic cord, cops said, according to a report in NY Post.
Sasthakonar had a disagreement with the 51-year-old nurse inside Nassau University Medical Center before he wrapped the cord around the woman’s neck at about 4:45 p.m., according to Nassau County Police.
He told the woman “I should kill you for this,” Newsday reported.
He was upset that the nurse had given medication to one of his patients at the wrong time, according to the complaint against him.
The doctor then took the elastic cord off his sweatshirt, according to Newday.
Sasthakonar left the hospital soon but returned hours later and was arrested. He was charged with strangulation and assault.
The nurse was treated for neck pain.
The doctor has been practicing at the hospital since 2008.
His attorney told Newsday the charges were “overblown.”
