Sarkozy in police custody over campaign financing

Paris, March 20: Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is in police custody over allegations relating to campaign financing.
Sarkozy was summoned to a police station in Nanterre and was being questioned by police in relation to financing from Libya during the 2007 presidential campaign which he won, Le Monde daily reported citing court sources.
The inquiry was opened in April 2013 but it is the first time Sarkozy is being questioned over the matter. It came several weeks after a former associate, Alexandre Djouhri, was arrested in London and later released on bail, the Metro News reported.
The former President can be held by police for up to 48 hours before facing magistrates.
