Indie Meme has sensationally cultivated an annual event in which to showcase the success of filmmakers from South Asia. In this instance success is not awards or money, rather the opportunity to tell a story from one's perspective and have it reach a global audience. At the helm of this venture are AlkaBhanot and TriptiBhatnagar whose leadership brings the South Asian experience to life to the greater Austin area in a way that goes beyond a superficial glance.

The 3rd annual, award-winning Indie Meme Film Festival is scheduled for April 19-22, 2018 at the Regal Cinemas, Arbor 8 in Great Hills, TX. The line-up features tales from (including, but not limited to): Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. In addition to diverse cultures, stories are presented through the eyes of a diverse segment of people with differences in age, the voyage in life, language, socio-economic standings, etc. You will be privy to a plethora of human experiences such as BARLEY FIELDS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, a film about a teenage girl who must choose between supporting her family after her father's political imprisonment or joining a group of oppressed nuns on their journey to freedom, LOCK & KEY, a PUNJABI documentary about four recovering addicts at a rehabilitation center in Punjab, and ABU, the story of filmmaker Arshad Khan's life chronicling the challenges of growing up as a gay man among a tightly-woven Muslim family in Pakistan.

Other notable mentions include ANGAMALY DIARIES, the critically acclaimed MALAYALAM film and DHH, a magical GUJARATI kids film, capturing the innocence and imagination of childhood. Additionally, IMFF showcasing the Texas Premiere of RIBBON, which follows a young couple’s struggles in learning to be parents to their new baby girl, a universal story that any parent can appreciate. The CLOSING NIGHT film CHUMBAK is a MARATHI movie about a Mumbai based teenage con-artist who winds up traveling across Maharashtra with his victim - a mentally challenged individual. At the close of the festival, after we witness the con-artists story, IMFF will present the Audience Choice Award Announcement and celebrate the event in its entirety with a wrap-up party.
