London: August 5,: UK’s left leaning Green Party endorsed the Aug 12th pro Khalistan rally which India unsuccessfully trying to block through demarche and note verbales to the Theresa May government.
Supporting the London Declaration on the Punjab Independence Referendum, Caroline Lucas MP and co-chairperson of the Green Party, in her message to the “Sikhs For Justice†(SFJ) stated that: "Sikh people have a right to determine for themselves whether they want to establish an independent Punjabi state. I stand in solidarity with all those joining the London Declaration, and those fighting discrimination and campaigning for a referendum around the world."
So far, the UK government’s response to India’s requests to ban the August 12th London Declaration event has been that “in the UK, people have the right to gather together and demonstrate their viewsâ€.
“The endorsement from Green Party leader Hon Caroline Lucas MP reassures that SFJ is on the right track to garner support of international community for Punjab Independence Referendum and Sikhs’ right to self-determinationâ€, stated attorney Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, legal advisor to SFJ who is camping in London since June to organize the event.
“It is the success of the British Sikh community which sent more than 47,000 emails to their MPs urging them to support London Declaration and oppose India’s interferenceâ€, stated Paramjeet Singh Pamma, the UK based Khalistani activist. “Scores of community members from across UK have also reportedly received supporting emails from their MPsâ€, added Pamma who is one of the main organizers of the pro-Khalistan event.
SFJ is holding a non-binding referendum in the year 2020 throughout the world on the issue of Sikhs’ right of self-determination for the independence of Punjab – the historical homeland of Sikhism.
In furtherance of its campaign for non-binding Referendum 2020, SFJ is holding “London Declaration†on August 12 at Trafalgar Square. The aim of the event is to spread among the world community an awareness about Sikh peoples' right of self-determination and its endeavors to hold a referendum in Punjab for realization of this fundamental political right.
