Indian American chef killed for $800,000 insurance money; two arrested
Dublin, California – Alameda County District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley filed murder charges against Maria Moore (50) and Marvel Salvant (46) in a sophisticated murder-for-hire case that resulted in the homicide of Fremont resident Dominic Sarkar.
Investigations found that Moore, the beneficiary of the Sarkar’s life insurance policies totaling $800,000, hired Marvel Salvant to kill Sarkar on October 8.
Both were charged with murder for financial gain among others. Salvant is also charged with unlawful possession a firearm.
In 2016, Sarkar and Moore purchased a $500,000 life insurance policy, listing Moore as the primary beneficiary, and two of Sarkar’s three daughters in India as contingent beneficiaries. Moore was listed as Sarkar’s domestic partner.
In September 2016, changes were made to the policy and Moore’s son was listed as the lone contingent beneficiary, and Moore remained the primary beneficiary.
In 2017, Sarkar purchased another life insurance policy for $300,000, listing one of his daughters as the primary beneficiary and the two others as contingent beneficiaries. That policy was also later changed to name Moore as the primary beneficiary, removing the daughters.
