On May 13, over a thousand leaders from the Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities will come together to celebrate AA and NHPI Heritage Month under the theme of "Bridging Histories, Shaping Our Future." On Wednesday, the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Centre and the White House Initiative on AANHPI (National Asian Pacific American Heritage Month) jointly revealed their 2024 theme.

"Every May, our nation has acknowledged the priceless contributions of AA and NHPI communities since the late 1970s," stated a news statement. "The Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Centre and WHIAANHPI have been working together for over ten years to suggest a national theme for AA and NHPI Heritage Month, in conjunction with the White House and community partners."

"I Am Beyond" (2014) and "Visible Together" (2023) were previously mentioned as topics that were enthusiastically welcomed by federal agencies and community-serving organisations. These themes sparked important conversations about AA and NHPI identities, stating as much.

The statement added that the 2024 theme seeks to honour the ancestors and encourages all Americans to explore the legacies, successes, and struggles that have influenced the AA and NHPI communities. "It captures the essence of our shared experience - a foundation of strength and optimism - and inspires us to build bridges between generations to pay tribute to our history and create a long-lasting way ahead."

May 2024 will be a monumental celebration at Washington, DC's Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, and the White House and WHIAANHPI will utilise this subject to encourage conversations at their May events, including the party.

According to the press release, this historic gathering will bring together more than 1,000 AA and NHPI leaders from five different presidential administrations. It will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the White House Initiative and the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders, which were established under the Clinton Administration.

Acquiring knowledge of our pasts empowers us. Embrace the connection of our tales and honour the visionaries who came before us throughout the month," the announcement read. "Let us pledge to highlighting the wide range of ways that diverse AA and NHPI communities have contributed to every aspect of American life," it firmly urged. "And let us strive to create connections that transcend backgrounds, cultures, and generations so that we can create a future where everyone can succeed."
