Ashwin Ramaswami, a Democrat running for Georgia State Senate District 48, has gotten a huge boost to his campaign from US Senator Jon Ossoff. On July 1st, Ossoff formally announced his backing. Following State Senator Shawn Still's indictment in Georgia for attempting to change the 2020 election results alongside Donald Trump, Ramaswami's campaign against Still has acquired considerable momentum. Senator Ossoff stated that Ashwin Ramaswami, if elected to the Georgia State Senate, would diligently work to represent his constituents and preserve democracy.

He used the words the contrast could not be clearer to emphasize the glaring difference between the contenders: An ex-election security expert named Ashwin is challenging a MAGA politician who is accused of trying to steal the 2020 election from Raphael Warnock and me. Putting democracy on the ballot in Senate District 48 is not an exaggeration. It is with great pride that I endorse Ashwin for the position of state senator.

The Democratic Party has nominated Ramaswami, a 24-year-old who just graduated from Georgetown University. He would make history if elected, becoming the first Indian-American to serve as a Georgia state lawmaker and the youngest person ever to do so. In 1990, Ramaswami's parents left Tamil Nadu for America.

Recognizing the Senator's achievements and the importance of the approaching election, Ashwin Ramaswami thanked Ossoff for endorsing him.

“Senator Ossoff has been a champion for Georgia from delivering billions in infrastructure upgrades to tackling climate change and strengthening our cybersecurity,” Ramaswami stated. However, he cautioned that these accomplishments would be undermined by extreme right-wing Republicans, such as his opponent at the state level. I'm honored to have Senator Ossoff's backing, and I can't wait to collaborate with him to safeguard our elections from extremists who would compromise them, increase housing options, and broaden access to healthcare.

Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) oversees the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), of which Senator Ossoff is a member. In order to challenge Shawn Still, Ramaswami resigned from his position as an election security officer at CISA.

His grassroots campaign has raised more than $280,000, putting him ahead of his opponent, according to the most recent financial report. Among his priorities are securing adequate funding for schools, lending a helping hand to small businesses, educating the public about future technology, and preserving the right to vote. For Democrats in Georgia, this district represents their best chance of capturing the state Senate. The 2020 election saw a Biden-Trump margin of 48–52, whereas Warnock prevailed in 2022 with a 51–49 victory.
