Washington, DC, July 25:
According to US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller, the 'nameplates' on restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra routes are not yet in force because the Indian Supreme Court granted an interim stay on their implementation. According to a US State Department spokesman, they were aware of the stories regarding the "nameplates in Kanwar Yatra" when a Pakistani journalist asked about them on Wednesday (local time). Those reports have been reviewed by us. According to what we've read, the Indian Supreme Court temporarily halted the guidelines' execution on July 22. That being the case, they aren't in effect," Miller clarified. On the subject of religious freedom, he went on to say that the United States has been in discussions with its Indian counterparts.

In a broad sense, we will never waver from our dedication to the cause of ensuring that people everywhere are free to practice their faith as they see fit. Additionally, he mentioned that they had discussed the significance of equitable treatment for people of all religions with their Indian counterparts.

Restaurants along the Kanwar Yatra route were ordered by some state governments to post the names of their owners outdoors. However, on Monday, the Supreme Court placed an interim stay on these directions.

During the Kanwar Yatra season, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Uttar Pradesh ordered store owners to display their names outside their establishments. A number of petitions opposing this instruction were heard by the top court.

The decision was made because the police believed it was necessary to maintain law and order. Many districts in Uttar Pradesh allegedly followed the order, and similar orders were issued in Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh as well. This past week, the government of Uttar Pradesh requested that all food and drink vendors along the Kanwar Yatra routes prominently display the name and identify of their proprietor or operator.
