Washington, DC September 14 :
During the debate with Republican Donald Trump on September 10, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris stunned several supporters by revealing that she owns a gun, but her statement was intentionally political. A White House source stated on Friday that Harris has a concealed carry permit and keeps her weapon in a safe place at her California home. The anonymous source would not reveal the brand of the rifle, but they did say it was the same one Harris brought up throughout her 2019 campaign.

Tim Walz and I are both gun owners, so this whole idea about taking weapons away from everyone is just ridiculous. After Walz's repeated fabrications about taking away people's guns, Harris demanded on Tuesday that Walz cease his lies about the matter. "I am a gun owner, and I own a gun for probably the reason a lot of people do — for personal safety," Harris told reporters in 2019. I spent my whole career in the prosecutor's office.

In an effort to reduce the alarmingly high number of gun-related injuries and fatalities in the United States, Harris and the majority of her Democratic Party have advocated for stricter gun control laws. The Republicans who are standing in the way of this bill's passage have cast Democrats as plotting to disarm the American people and repeal the Second Amendment, which guarantees the freedom to "bear arms."

The one-third of Americans who own guns and the two-thirds of Americans who favor stricter gun control laws are the target audience that Harris is attempting to win over. To prevent the possession of firearms by individuals judged to be violent or mentally ill, Harris has advocated for stricter red flag regulations and universal background checks. Along with high-capacity magazines, she seeks to outlaw so-called assault weapons.

"I'm a good marksman," Harris declared in response to a question about her gun-firing experience during a 2015 California onstage interview with Politico. She confirmed, "Yes, I have shot a gun many times." She detailed that particular weapon as a pistol. CNN stated that upon Trump's felony indictment in April 2023, his concealed carry license in New York was suspended. The news site reported that he surrendered two of his three firearms and had the third one sent to Florida.
