In Michigan, First Lady Gwen Walz—wife of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—and Democratic Congressional candidate Debbie Dingell paid their respects to the Sikh community. State Representative Ranjeev Puri was also in attendance. Having a major party presidential campaign event at a Sikh site of worship was a first for the event, which took place at a nearby Gurdwara.

Legislator Pramila Jayapal of Washington, who accompanied Walz, expressed her joy on social media, writing, "What a historic day!" It was today that GwenWalz showed her appreciation and respect to the Sikh people of Michigan. It has never happened before for a presidential campaign on a major party ticket to visit a Sikh Gurdwara. Being a part of the effort to make sure that everyone feels heard, valued, and seen was a privilege. Jayapal bolstered the squad's morale by adding, "Let's go win!"

The comedic parts were also well-received. A little attendee asked Walz during the tour if third graders should finish their homework. In keeping with her reputation as an educator, Walz inquired as to the amount of time the youngster had previously spent on the task, before offering the child the encouraging words, "he should try to get his homework done as long as it's not more than 20 minutes." After her Michigan campaign, Walz will head to Arizona on October 29 to continue her campaigning. The election, which takes place on November 5, will feature a highly anticipated matchup between former president Donald Trump and vice president Kamala Harris.
