Renjini RamachandranIt was Mukesh Chandrakar (33), a freelance journalist from Bijapur (Chhattisgarh), who exposed corruption related to road construction, that led to his death. Mukesh, who gained recognition through the YouTube channel Bastar Junction, went missing on January 1. Based on a complaint filed by his brother Yukesh, police conducted an investigation focused on Mukesh's phone, which led them to a prominent local contractor's premises, where his body was found in a septic tank.
The last person Mukesh spoke to over the phone was a contractor. Mukesh had informed a friend about this, but after that, he could no longer be reached. His exposure of corruption in road construction and the last phone call with the contractor are the main reasons for suspecting the involvement of contractors in his death. Mukesh’s reports on Maoist conflicts in the Bastar region had already gained attention earlier.
