In a bizarre and heartbreaking twist, a young woman from a village under the Madrak police station limits in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, was left stunned when her own mother disappeared with her fiancé just ten days before the wedding.
Shivani, the bride-to-be, had been preparing to marry Rahul on April 16. Wedding cards were printed, and relatives had already received invitations. However, what was meant to be a joyful occasion turned into a nightmare when her mother, Anita, allegedly ran away with Rahul, taking with her over ₹3.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth more than ₹5 lakh from the family home.
Speaking to reporters, Shivani said she had noticed her mother and Rahul often speaking over the phone for the past few months but never imagined such a betrayal. "She did everything he told her to. She didn't even leave behind ₹10. All our savings and jewellery are gone. I don’t care what they do now, but we want our money and valuables returned," she said.
Her father, Jitendra Kumar, who operates a business in Bengaluru, said he had grown suspicious over the increasing communication between Anita and Rahul. "For the past three months, they would talk for almost 22 hours a day. I didn't raise an issue because the wedding was near. But on April 6, Anita vanished along with Rahul, taking all our savings," he said.
Jitendra also shared that he tried repeatedly to contact Anita, but her phone was switched off. When he managed to reach Rahul, the man initially denied any knowledge of Anita’s whereabouts. Later, Rahul admitted she was with him and coldly told Jitendra to "forget her," claiming she had suffered for 20 years in the marriage.
Now, Jitendra has filed a missing person report for Anita. The local police have launched an investigation into the matter. "We’ve registered a case based on the complaint and have initiated a probe. Action will be taken as per the law," said an officer from the Madrak police station.
The case has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving a family devastated and a bride abandoned in the most unexpected way
