“Serve Others through Sewa and Find Meaning in Life,” Seniors Urged at Diwali Event in Houston
Richmond, Texas — December 03, 2025 — “Stay Active, Serve others through Sewa and find
meaning in life”, Dr. Dasika Narasimham, a physician and community leader, urged seniors in the
Sewa Diwali celebrations organized by Sewa’s Houston chapter recently.
In his keynote on “Sewa, Retirement, and the Road to Happiness,” Dr. Narasimham reminded seniors that
“life after retirement can be fulfilling. By serving with compassion, you can live life with purpose.”
Over 200 people, including seniors, volunteers, and other community members, attended the event held at
the Sri Sharadamba Temple in Houston. Dr. Pranav Loyalka, President of Sewa’s Houston Chapter,
welcomed participants, noting the excellent support Sewa receives from the community.
Sewa honored Umang Mehta and Somir Paul for their long-standing dedication to Sewa’s Family Services
programs and their continued support of families in need. Dr. Pranav appreciated their hard work, compassion, and commitment, and said, “They have made a real difference in strengthening community
services and reaching people during difficult times.”

Throughout the event, LEAD (Leadership, Education, and Development) youth volunteers, wearing yellow
Sewa T-shirts, assisted with registration, guided attendees, and supported every aspect of the program with
enthusiasm and teamwork. The celebration featured a graceful Ganesh Vandana dance by Uma Nagarseth,
which delighted the audience.

“The joy on every senior’s face cannot be put into words. With strong attendance and enthusiastic
participation, Senior Sewa Diwali 2025 was a resounding success—bringing together devotion, joy, and the
timeless spirit of sewa,” said Kavita Tewary, Executive Director, Sewa International – Houston Chapter.
Attendee Manju Gupta added, “The whole event was beautifully arranged. Volunteers were continuously
serving everyone—it was heartening to see young students leading the event!”
The Bhangra and Garba performances, led by Jasmeeta, Ruby, and Paresh Jasani, filled the room with
excitement and joyful music. Their lively dancing encouraged the seniors to participate and enjoy the
celebration together. Guests enjoyed festive appetizers and lunch, while a Food Donation Drive highlighted
