On the occasion of International Women's Day on Sunday, budget carrier
SpiceJet said it was operating 16 all-women crew flights across India
and on its international routes.
"The first such all-women crew
Bombardier Q400 flight, SG 1, took-off from Chennai at 0040 hours bound
for Colombo, under the command of Captain Aarti Pushpala, cabin
crew-in-charge Sheeba Singh, and their all-woman crew," the airlines
announced in a release here.
The morning shift of
SpiceJet's Flight Support Centre, the operational nerve centre of the
airline, was also handled by an all-women team led by Aditi Chauhan," it
added.
In another unique initiative, the airline also handed
over its official twitter handle to four of its selected women staff.
This is an all-day live interactive chat session answering questions
about women in aviation.
Meanwhile, global diagnostics
chain SRL Diagnostics also honoured five exceptional women from the
national capital "who despite all odds in their lives have emerged
winners and are a role model for many".
The five women were
honoured with high-end cervical cancer screening and a lifetime offer of
SRLs premium health screening package, the company said.
Those
honoured are Sonia Choudhary, an acid attack survivor; Anjina
Rajagopalan, a social philanthropist; Anna Marie Lopes, a domestic
violence survivor; Omkari, a cab driver and Rajni Bhagat Arora, a cancer
survivor.
