Delhi witnesses hottest day of season

New Delhi: The national capital on Sunday witnessed the hottest day of the season so far as the mercury level crossed the 40-degree-mark for the first time, settling four notches above the average.

"Sunday was the season's hottest day in the city at 40.6 degrees Celsius. This is for the first time the maximum temperature has crossed 40 degrees in this summer season in Delhi," said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

The Met Office has forecast partly cloudy weather on Monday.

"The sky will be partly cloudy on Monday with mist in the morning. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover between 41 and 23 degrees Celsius," Met official said.

Sunday's minimum temperature settled at 21.6 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the season.

The day's maximum humidity was recorded at 79 percent.

Saturday's maximum temperature was recorded at 38 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average while the minimum temperature was recorded at 21.8 degrees Celsius.
