Kabul: At least 10 people were killed and 30 others injured in a suicide bomb attack in Afghanistan's northern province of Faryab on Wednesday, a media report said.

The attack took place in the morning at a market in Almar district of the northern province and majority of the victims were civilians, Xinhua reported.

Security forces cordoned off the area while rescue and relief operations were on.

The number of casualties were expected to rise as several of the injured were in critical condition.

No group had so far claimed responsibility for the incident. Faryab province is 425 km northwest of Afghan capital Kabul.

The province has been the scene of heavy clashes between the Taliban militant group and security forces over the past couple of weeks.
