Kejriwal says Jung acting for Modi
New Delhi, July 23
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind
Kejriwal on Thursday denounced Lt Governor Najeeb Jung as a dictator and
accused him of working at the behest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The
chief minister has written to Jung saying that by describing himself
(Jung) as 'the government', the Lt. Governor was acting at the behest of
Modi," a Delhi government official told IANS.
Kejriwal demanded to know if Jung was trying to act like a dictator.
The
letter followed Jung's decision to reject the Delhi government's
appointment of Swati Maliwal as chief of Delhi Commission for Women
(DCW).
In his communication rejecting Maliwal's appointment, Jung had described his office as "the government" in Delhi.
AAP leaders meet Rajnath, complain against police
An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) delegation on Thursday met union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over its leader Dilip Pandey's allegation that a Delhi Police van tried to run him over.
The delegation, including Kumar Vishwas and Pandey, handed over to Rajnath Singh a compact disc of a video recording of the incident.
"We handed to the home minister the video proof and a letter regarding what happened with Dilip Pandey. He said he was aware of the issue," Vishwas said after emerging out of the meeting with the home minister.
The delegation also complained to Rajnath Singh about Delhi Police's alleged beating up of party workers during a protest against the grisly murder of a 19-year-old woman.
"Beating up of our workers for protesting over the Anand Parbat case is another issue we spoke about with the home minister," the AAP leader said.
"After a beating at the protest site, they were beaten up in police lock-up too," he added.
The meeting comes a day after AAP leaders met Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Delhi Police over the issue.
Pandey said a police van tried to run him over when he was speaking with journalists outside Rajinder Nagar police station in central Delhi on Tuesday evening. He was there to get released the party workers detained during the protest.
