Dr George Joseph passes away in Maryland

Potomac, Maryland:

Dr George Joseph, 78, one of the earliest immigrants to the US, passed away in the early hours of January 17 at his home in Potomac, Maryland surrounded by loving family and extended family members.  

He is survived by his wife Tessy, sons Dr Roy, Paul (prosecuting attorney at Department of Justice), and Anil (banker), daughter in law Karen and grandchildren Kyle, Lindsay, Ryan, William, and Nate.  

Dr. Joseph was born in Palai, Kerala in the Thotumkal Family, and in 1962, after finishing medical school at Trivanduram Medical College, he married Tessy Paul from Thrissur of the Padathiparambil Family.  

Soon after, Dr. Joseph and Tessy emigrated to the United States, residing in New York City and Baltimore, Maryland where he completed his medical residencies.   

In 1969, they settled in Potomac outside of Washington, DC, where he and Tessy raised their three sons.  He, along with Tessy, were very active in the Catholic Church, as well as being pioneers of the Kerala Association of Greater Washington as well as the Kerala Medical Graduates Association in the Washington, DC area.  

Dr Joseph also had a passion for education which he instilled in his sons, who he guided to medical school, law school, and business administration, respectively.  

The wake is at Saint Raphael Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland (1513 Dunster Road, Rockville, MD 20854) from 6 pm to 8 pm on Friday, January 29, and the funeral is at 12 noon on Saturday, January 30, also at Saint Raphael Church.  

He will be buried at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Avenue, Silver Spring, MD 20906.
