Beijing envoy Vijay Keshav Gokhale is new Secretary
New Delhi, June 29: Vijay Gokhale, currently Indian Ambassador to China, has been appointed as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
"The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Vijay Keshav Gokhale, a 1981 batch IFS officer as Secretary (Economic Relations) in the Ministry of External Affairs," an official statement said on Thursday.
Gokhale has served as Ambassador of India to Germany and also in Indian missions in Hong Kong, Hanoi, Beijing and New York.
He has also held the posts of Director (China and East Asia) and then Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the ministry.
Gokhale will replace Amar Sinha, who had held the post for over a year.
