Bengaluru's Yelahanka Sees Month-Long Ban on Sale of Fish, Meat, and Non-Veg Food: Here’s Why It’s Happening

January 20:
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has banned the sale of non-vegetarian food near the air force station region due to the AERO India 2025 airshow, according to ANI, citing an official notice.

Government in Bengaluru is carried out by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). The biggest airshow in India is Aero India. The event is scheduled for the middle of February. The municipal corporation had previously announced that, starting on January 23, all hotels, restaurants, butcher stalls, and markets selling meat, fish, and poultry were to close and not serve or sell any non-vegetarian food within a 13-kilometer radius of the site.

As a precautionary step, this safeguard has been implemented to ensure that the aircraft practice sessions do not encounter any bird strikes. This change is made in the hopes that raptors, especially eagles, will stay out of the air during the air show because they eat scraps.
The official notice states that the party in violation of the public notice would be subject to penalties under the BBMP Act 2020 and rule 91 of the Indian Aircraft Rules 1937.

The Bengaluru Air Force Station will play host to the biggest aviation expo in India, Aero India 2025. More than 7 lakh attendees, 800 exhibitors, and 53 aircraft are anticipated to attend the event, which is slated to take place from February 10 to February 14, according to statistics from the Aero India website for 2023.

People from all walks of life, including top defense manufacturers, investors, MSMEs, startups, international investors, military suppliers, and R&D organizations, will be present at the airshow and exhibition. The show is overseen by the Ministry of Defence's Department of Defence Production, according to the official website. More than a hundred different countries sent delegates to the most recent Aero India event, which took place from February 13–17, 2023.
