Sensex trades flat; automobile stocks down

Mumbai: A benchmark index of the Indian equities markets, the 30-scrip S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex), was trading flat in the late-afternoon session on Wednesday. It was marginally down by 9.21 points or 0.03 percent.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading flat during the late-afternoon trade session. It was down by 10.65 points or 0.13 percent at 8,367.10 points.

The Sensex of the S&P BSE, which opened at 27,756.68 points, was trading at 27,666.83 points (at 2.30 p.m.), down 9.21 points or 0.03 percent from the previous day's close at 27,676.04 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 27,827.66 points and a low of 27,385.48 points in the intra-day trade so far.

In Wednesday's trade so far, healthy buying was observed in capital goods and healthcare sectors.

However, stocks of automobile, information technology (IT), banks, technology, entertainment and media (TECK) and oil and gas came under heavy selling pressure.

The BSE S&P capital goods index grew by 94.36 points, followed by healthcare index which increased by 82.99 points.

However, the S&P BSE automobile index plunged by 223.61 points, IT index receded by 129.08 points, banks index declined by 103.15 points, TECK index was lower by 66.82 points and oil and gas index decreased by 65.36 points.
