New Delhi, May 24 : Commuters travelling to Faridabad from south Delhi had a harrowing time on Tuesday due to heavy traffic jams as Delhi Metro gantry crane got dislocated from its position near a crucial junction on the Ring Road, officials said. The problem is likely to persist for the next two days.

"A metro gantry crane near the Ashram Chowk got dislocated from its actual position due to heavy storm on Monday and thus we had blocked the slip road from Maharani Bagh to Ashram Chowk," Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sharad Agarwal told IANS.

"The motorist going to Faridabad should use Kalindi Kunj or Captain Gaur Marg - Modi Mill road," he said.

Heavy traffic was witnessed on the Ring Road from the Delhi Noida Direct (DND) flyway till All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) due to the blockage on the slip road near Ashram Chowk.

"Due to the diversion in the routes, congestion was there in the surrounding areas," Agarwal said, adding: "The problem may continue for next two days."

A Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson told IANS that a gantry placed on the Line seven (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar) got dislocated from its actual position last (Monday) night.

"As a precautionary measure to stop further damag,e we have stopped the traffic on the route, and the dismantling of the gantry with the help of specialised equipments is underway," the spokesperson said, adding adequate traffic marshals and temporary signage have been put up at all crucial intersections to inform the motorists.
