Jayalalithaa files nomination
Chennai:Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Friday filed nomination papers to contest the by-election from R.K. Nagar assembly constituency here on June 27.
Jayalalithaa, sworn in as chief minister two weeks ago, has to get elected to the state assembly within six months of taking office.
She was disqualified as a legislator in September 2014 when a Bengaluru court convicted her in a corruption case. Sent to jail for three weeks, she had to resign as chief minister.
Days before she was sworn in, P. Vetrivel, the AIADMK legislator from R.K. Nagar, resigned from the assembly to facilitate her election.
